22 Week Update

Pregnancy Highlights
August 18, 2012
How Far Along: 22 Weeks and some days.

Size of baby: Baby Boy Borin is about the size of a a papaya (according the The Bump).

Total Weight Gain/Loss: I honestly haven't checked in this week. Why go ruin a good day, right?

Maternity Clothes: I love them! We went to a garage sale Saturday and I got three (brand new-with tags still on them) shirts and a pair of pants.

Gender: It's a boy...who is still nameless. We are working on a list though.

Movement: I've been feeling him a lot! I woke up to quite a bit of steady "kicking" the other night which was cool. The good man still can't feel them though.

Sleep: I've been sleeping pretty well lately. The dreams are still crazy and vivid and I dreamed that I had him the other night...in a bathtub...with just my sister there.  Weird!

What I miss: being able to brush my teeth without gagging.

Cravings: Hmmm. I'm not sure. We found a new place around here that has gluten free pizza that I was really wanting so I guess that was maybe a "craving". Nothing weird yet.

Symptoms: I'm feeling great! Sleepy of course and occasionally cranky (on account of 21 First Graders) but not complaints here.

Best Moment this Week: I kinda feel like there were a lot of good moments this week. Feeling the little guy move around has been super fun! I'm glad to finally be getting a real belly. Strangers have really started asking me about the baby and my friends at work have been rubbing him a lot-which I love! :) Oh, and we scheduled the first shower!

Here are some recent pictures.

21 Weeks.

22 Weeks in front of our Razorback Flag.

Again, 22 weeks. We were dressed up to go eat dinner at the Sun Dial and I'll have to post about that later.

21 Weeks

Pregnancy Highlights
August 10, 2012
How Far Along: 21 Weeks

Size of baby: Baby Boy Borin is about the size of a pomegranate (according the The Bump).

Total Weight Gain/Loss: I think I've gained about 11 pounds or so.

Maternity Clothes: I just really started wearing them last week and they are great! The stretchy panel in the pants is the most wonderful (and comfortable) idea ever! I still wear normal dresses and some tops and I wear the good man's shorts at night. It it is a really attractive thing to see. Hah!

Gender: It's a BOY. Now he just needs a name.

Movement: I've been feeling little flutters at night (when I lay down) for a few weeks and I've really started to notice them getting a bit stronger throughout the day. I think I felt him (with my hand on my stomach) the other night.

Sleep: I have to get up to use the bathroom  several times and it is kinda hard to go back to sleep but it is MUCH BETTER than it was. I'm a dork and I ordered a pregnancy pillow that is amazing!! I wish I knew about it years ago. It has helped with the whole sleep thing for sure!

What I miss: Sushi. A Bagel Roll with salmon and cream cheese sounds amazing! Oh, and maybe a glass of Moscato.

Cravings: Cold fruit salad still sounds (and tastes) delicious. I have kinda started eating tomatoes actually and I used to hate them. Maybe it is pregnancy related?

Symptoms: I had been feeling great (and still do) but with school starting back I have been beyond exhausted! I thought I knew what it felt like to be tired...but no...I did not. My new bedtime is 9:15. Really. Baby Boy Borin apparently is not a fan of eating breakfast at 6:00 AM (can you blame the little guy?) so the first few mornings of the back to school week were a little rough. We are getting the hang of it  though.

Best Moment this Week: Telling all of my old parents and students at work. My new class of Firsties is completely obsessed with my belly and wants to know all about how big he is in there and how big the belly will get. :)

19 Weeks

Just when I thought I couldn't get any worse at this whole blogging thing-I got even worse! We've had a great summer and I just haven't been in a blogging mood. We spent two weeks in Arkansas and a week in Columbus for my brother in law's wedding. I've done an awful job taking weekly belly pictures (sorry) but I do have pictures from the past two weeks.

Here we are at 18 weeks.
We were dorks and took pictures in front of the window at Will and Haley's Wedding.

19 weeks. Of course Rooster had to jump in.

And...

Yesterday we found out...

It's a Boy!

I had great plans of putting the blue balloons around him and having a cute picture but he took off running as soon as I tied them on. This poor dog was scared to death of them!

So there you have it. I'm 19 weeks and feeling great! The baby looked happy and healthy on the ultrasound yesterday and I've started to feel him flutter around in there. We are blessed!

Here are the rest of the "secret posts." Let's step back in time, shall we?

4-26-12
Today I am officially 6 weeks. Maybe I felt a little queasy today but I’m honestly still coughing so who knows? Today was a day at work, let me tell you. I had a meeting where I got very emotional. I basically cried like an idiot. Sigh. I wanted to tell them so bad why I couldn’t get the emotions in check but it is still our little secret right now. I got a hug and a “I know you have a lot going on right now.” I just thought…”YEP! You have no idea.”
J  School is just so stinking stressful when you only have 18 days left. The kids are crazy and the teachers feel like they are going crazy. I’ve had two different people say something about wanting to come over to my porch and drink some wine. Pretty sure I just giggled nervously. Haha!
Update: I threw up tonight for the first time. I was coughing in the kitchen and it hit me out of nowhere. Could just be from the coughing though?

5-1-12
It is an interesting thing to find yourself hungry and nauseous at the same time. I’m sort of getting used to it though. Thankfully that cough is GONE! I have officially thrown up 6 times (but who’s counting, right?) and this morning was the worst. I woke up pretty queasy, was putting my makeup on and then BAM! Either way, it is all worth it for the little one. I am actually thankful to be sick. Hopefully it means she or he is growing in there happy and healthy and getting the things they need. I can’t wait until this appointment next week! So far, Seth and I and my good friend at work are the only people that know. It is good to have someone at work who knows just in case something comes up (ahem….throwing up). Seth’s mom comes tomorrow so we are going to tell her (I don’t think we could hide it even if we wanted to what with my recent queasiness and all). I guess I need to think of something to post over in real-time now. Haha!

5-18
Things are great! I’m 9 weeks and 2 days and actually feeling a little bit better. We went last Thursday and heard the heartbeat. I was so happy and relieved that I couldn’t really do anything…I couldn’t cry and I couldn’t talk…I could really only look at the screen. The heartbeat was strong and it was the most amazing little thing to see. Since I last updated you I have completely lost count of how many times I’ve thrown up. Pretty much everyday since then…so you can do the math. I never really felt terrible all during the day but nauseous on and off and pretty much accepted the fact that I would get sick at some point during the day. Sometimes (most times) it was in the morning, sometimes at school before lunch and sometimes at home. I didn’t get sick at all on Monday or Tuesday of this week but it came back Wednesday. The main thing I’ve noticed lately is that I am so completely exhausted. Poor Seth. Our house is a mess and I don’t remember (honestly, I don’t) the last time I cooked for him. He’s had to do dishes, fix my lunch in the morning (with OUT asking me what I want for the “L word” as I ride the quease train) and he thankfully made a big pot of chili to eat on for the week. It doesn’t hit me right away when I get home. If I’m lucky I have about an hour to eat and hang out before I literally can’t keep my eyes open anymore. It has become my new normal to take a long snooze on the couch and wake up to be in bed about 9:15. I’m so ready for school to be out! My girls have been so sweet…they don’t “know” but I think they “know.” Crazy, I know but they realize I’m not myself. They’ve been all about giving me back rubs and I’ve been all about it. It was so much fun to tell Seth’s mom and my grandparents in person since they were here. It was just as much fun to call my mom, dad, Jennifer and the siblings.  I know we have a lot of people out there praying for us and I do appreciate it. It still doesn’t seem real and a part of me is sort of hesitant to believe it too much yet. I wish I could have an ultrasound every week to check on the little one. :) I’m calling this week to make the first appointment with the OBGYN which is exciting and that will probably make it more real!

6-1
Wednesday was our first OB appointment! I was on the fence about which hospital to go to and which doctor to see but I could not have been happier on Wednesday! Seth and I both left feeling cared for, more excited, and like we had made a good decision. We actually go back on Thursday for the 12 week ultrasound. I am so ready for that! I’m excited to see the little one and get confirmation that he or she is okay and healthy. I am still almost afraid to get too excited…which I hate. I feel bad about it but I figure it is better to put it say it outloud, realize it is ridiculous, and move on.
The estimated due date is December 20 and my doctor said she always works Christmas. Yeah! I’m feeling much better! Still tired and I still get sick occasionally but I’m not queasy all day anymore. Sleeping is kinda hard right now. I wake up at least twice to go to the bathroom and I usually have a hard time going back to sleep…it is 6:45 AM now. Haha! My back has been a little sore too. No complaints…just documenting. :)

So there you have it. Now you are all updated. We had another ultrasound last week where we saw the little thing flipping over and wiggling all around. It was pretty amazing! We'll be 13 weeks tomorrow and I'm starting to get a little bump so it is starting to feel a little more "real." :)

Why I Was Pressing the Shady Button.

This poor little blog has really been neglected. I have been a shady lady for sure. I haven't really had anything to post about. Sure- I could have told you about the good man and how his leg is healing. I could have told you about Rooster. I could have filled you in on a fun Wedding Shower for my brother in law and having company. I could have told you about this amazing Cuban food place we've found and how I might be addicted to plantains. I could have even told you about the last day of school and how my summer is off to a a great start. The thing is...whenever I sat down and tried to post about something like that (and I DID try)...all I really wanted to do was spill the beans about what was REALLY going on in our lives. In an effort to sound "cool and collected" I ended up sounding boring and I didn't even want to read what I wrote!

Since the news became official on Facebook I suppose it is safe to put it here as well...we are having a baby! Even as I write that my heart pounds and a part of me is nervous to put it out there. I was 12 weeks last week and we saw a perfectly little healthy bouncy, flipping, wiggling Baby Borin on Thursday.

I've been even shadier and decided to write posts about this experience and the emotions that have come with it -but didn't post them. How very sneaky of me! Actually, after the first one I was terrified that I would accidentally hit "post" so I just started writing them in a word document. Haha! I wrote the first one about a week and a half after we found out so it is a bit of a long blabbering mess. If you're anything like me though, I love hearing all of the behind the scenes details of how people find out they are having a baby and how they tell their other half. Being nosy is pretty much the whole reason I ended up starting this blog anyway...so I'll be happy to share.  Let's go back in time to April 25, 2012.

4-25-12
Well...it appears that we are having a baby. Even as I type that it doesn't seem "real." Considering all we've been through it might not seem real until the little one is in my arms. :) I've been grinning to myself every time I tell the story of the good man's accident...not because he got hurt of course...but because of everything that was going on behind the scenes. I found out I was pregnant the day he was admitted to the hospital. I had a feeling that I might be and even though it was a little too early to probably test I couldn't wait anymore. (For the record, I did waste a test about four days before that which was WAY too early but I had to see what would happen). I came home early that morning to get coffee, something to eat and to take a nap (from being in the ER all night) and took the test right away. I watched it kind of "swoosh over" and there was only one line. I remember thinking, "Wow. I kinda thought it would be positive." I went about changing clothes and remembered that the test was in there and that I needed to throw it away since it had been three minutes now. I was so surprised to see that a very faint line had appeared! I was excited- but honestly, I was just as cautious- about it. I decided not to call Seth but to just tell him in a few hours when I went up there to see him. I talked to my mother in law about 20 minutes after to update her on the hospital stuff and my heart was about to burst out of my chest! I skipped the coffee, took a shower, watched some Golden Girls and tried to take a nap. Later that morning I finally headed up to the hospital. I walked in and made small talk about what I did at home. "Yeah, I updated everybody about you being in the hospital. I tried to get some sleep. I got some food. Oh...guess what else I got? A faint line on a pregnancy test!" He grinned and we laughed at how we had barely even decided we would try for a baby. I'm talking like three weeks ago decided we would see what happens! Later that day I talked to my friend Karen and she told me that she was pregnant! My heart was literally beating out of my chest! I took another test Saturday morning and it the line was much darker which made me think it could possibly be true. On Monday I was putting the Homework Packets together during my planning period when it hit me..."OH! I probably need to call Dr. Perry." I called the office and the receptionist (who I LOVE!) said they could see me that afternoon! I couldn't believe it. I was so nervous all day and I was beet red when I showed up at the office. It all seemed so familiar and not really in a good way. It brought back a lot of memories and made me hesitant to get my hopes up. The sweet nurse gave me the same speech she did last time (on that first ultrasound where we couldn't find a heartbeat): "Let's not worry until we have a reason to." Anyway, after an official doctor's office pregnancy test (haha) they confirmed it...I was pregnant. He calculated that I was 4 weeks and 4 days and said to come back in a few weeks. Currently, Seth and I are dying! My mom called last night to check on us and I sounded so stinking boring. "Yep, everything is fine. Yeah, school is fine. Yeah, not really anything to report. Talk to you later." Sorry, mom! I've been sick as a dog but not really anything pregnancy related...aside from the fact that I can’t take any medicine. I have a horrible cough so I've been gargling salt water like a mad woman. Haven't really been getting great rest at night (due to the hacking) and today I was riding the quease train and had the coughing but I'm surviving. Tomorrow I will be 6 weeks so I only have two more weeks until we go back to the doctor. It is so hard to wait but I'm trying to keep my mind at ease and find some balance of excitement but keeping it in check. Does that make sense? May 10th can't get here soon enough! (Just like everybody who does this...I hope it doesn't accidentally post.)

So there you have it. We are going to have a baby. Our due date is December 20 and we are really excited. And cautious. And nervous. And a little scared. All things that are perfectly normal I suppose. I have quite a few more "secret posts" that I'll post soon.

Easter, Rooster, and the Emergency Room

I don't have any Yard Sale treasures to report but I do want to tell you about our Easter. Our day started out normal enough with church and then coming home to help Rooster celebrate his first year of life.  He was just as hyper as ever and enjoyed his day. I decided to be a dork and make him some dog treats and he really liked them!
(You can find the recipe here if you're interested. Check it out...they were a hit!)

(I'm not very good at taking pictures of food, apparently.)
I liked that I already had all of the ingredients.

As soon I as got the peanut butter down Rooster was in there in the way! I tried to sneak a picture of him hanging around and I caught him licking this lips. Haha!

He was excited!

They did look pretty good for dog treats, I think. He liked them a lot!

He doesn't look very happy here...but trust me..the dog has got it made.

The good man and I stayed in town for Easter this year and did our own thing. We decided we'd do a non-traditional Easter meal of salmon and spinach with a strawberry, jalapeno, and kiwi salsa on top. It was pretty good!

That night turned a little crazy when we ended up taking an ambulance ride to the ER due to a "laceration" on the good man's leg. He is fine but came home about 40 stitches richer. We just couldn't stay away from the ER and ended up going back that Wednesday due to an infection and the poor guy had to spend a day and a half in the hospital. We have great friends who sent a lot of prayers and nice emails (and a delicious dinner) our way and he is healing well! He should get the stitches out on Monday and know a little bit more about the part of skin that had some complications.

Needless to say, these past two weeks have been busy! Ya'll know me...and you know I like to sleep. Never in my life had I been awake for 24 hours straight but I did it twice that week (due to the lovely ER). So now you know why we've been hanging in instead of digging for treasures. Maybe we'll be back to it next week.

Saturday Treasures

I didn't forget to show you our treasures last week...we just didn't have any luck. We ended up hitting 8 of them (I think) last week and didn't end up getting anything. Some weeks are just like that.
Today we had some luck though!

Next weekend we are going camping with some friends and we've been on the look out for "camping stuff" since last summer. We've ended up getting a few pots and pans and today we found a set with a spoon, ladle, and spatula for $1.

The husband has a long list of books that he keeps an eye out for and today he found one of them (tucked away beside The Joy of Yoga -or something along that line) for $1.

As we were standing there the lady brought out a rack of clothes. Now. Used to I would roll my eyes at getting clothes/shoes at a Garage Sale. I know that was kind of a lame way to be (and it does depends on the sale of course) but here lately I've found some good things! Remember those two pairs of shoes I got two weeks ago? I've worn them both more than one time! You can see them here
Anyway, look at this dress that was only $1!

When I was standing there looking at the dress I couldn't find a size on it and I wasn't sure it would fit. I thought for a $1 I should go ahead and get it and then give it to my sister if it was too small for me.
I found the size when I got home and tried it on and it fits! Sorry Kelsey. :)

I think the top of it is so cute!

So there you have it. A successful day, I'd say.
