A Few Favorites...

After a long week (that just keeps dragging) I haven't really felt like posting. Sorry.

I thought I'd talk about some of the things I am currently digging.
 You know, because talking about things you like always cheers you up. 

First up...

the Coach sunglasses I got for Christmas. 

I love these things! 
One of my best friends since Kindergarten (and now my cousin in law?) got the same pair just in a different color. Here we are rocking them out before we took the Coach sticker off.

Next...

eos lip balm.

I don't really care much about it being "organic" or anything. I just like the way it smells and makes my lips feel. You know I'm addicted to chap stick so I'm all about fun new kinds.

Next up...

and don't you dare judge me for this....

I know. I know. I have to be honest though...

I listen to Caught in a Bad Romance in my car. A lot. And maybe I sing it. Loudly.

And of course...

a glass of Moscato after a long day.

Yep. I feel better.

Chess Pie?

Have you ever heard of a Chess Pie?
(L.R.L...help me out here.)

Have you? Me neither.

Last night a friend (from TN) in my small group brought it for dessert. I sort of got harassed kidded since I have never in my life heard of it. 

I believe her exact words were, "You're from Arkansas and you've never made it? You've never heard of Chess Pie? What? Really?" 

I was flat out stunned. Being from Arkansas is something I enjoy.

(Yes, I'm serious. Especially around these city folks in Atlanta.)

I kinda like being one of the southern ones and I feel like I have some good recipes up my sleeve for whenever I might need them.

The pie looked delicious and it looked "familiar." I know I've seen it at potlucks and things like that back home but I sure can't recall the name coming up in conversations with my momma or grandma or anybody. I even took a quick peek through some cookbooks tonight and its nowhere to be found. 

My good man loved it so I plan on making it sometime soon. All of the ingredients (except the crust, of course) are already gluten free so it wont be hard to tweek it so I can eat it. I'm pretty excited to try it and see what all of the hoopla is all about.

My question to you is this... am I just really behind the times?

 

Please let me know. I'm feeling very un-Southern  and I don't like it. 

Cabin what?

As you know, on Sunday, the ATL got pounded with bad weather. 

Snow. 

Sleet. 

Below-freezing temperatures.

Road closings. 

5 days of no school. 

People all over the Metro-Area are suffering from "cabin fever." 

 

Dictionary.com defines cabin fever as " a state characterized by anxiety, restlessness, and boredom, arising from a prolonged stay in a remote or confined space." (dictionary.com)

Friends, I can tell you with 100% confidence that I am not suffering from cabin fever in any way, shape, or form. This week has been amazing.

How could I not love sleeping late, drinking insane amounts of coffee, laying on the heating vent (you know you do it) getting to cook breakfast, lunch, and supper, watching daytime TV and Netflix movies around the clock, late night walks around the neighborhood, and getting my house clean? Fun times.

So now I'm curious...

Where it's so white as snow

Snow days in the ATL are kind of a rare thing. More than one snow day in a row is unheard of. (At least to me in the time I've been here). Of course, last year we had the IWIA Great Flood of 2010 where we missed a few days (you can read more about that here) but that was a special situation. A special situation that I don't care to have happen again, thank you very much.

Anyway. We were out Monday and Tuesday and we'll be out tomorrow. I have enjoyed my time at home so much! I actually got the Christmas decorations down and have had time to cook some delicious stuff (like deer stew and fried chicken). My good man shoveled our driveway today so that we can make it out eventually when the temperature gets above freezing and melts some of this.

Friends in Low Places

Hi, friends!

Let’s jump right into Operation: Catch up on Pictures, shall we? 

The first Sunday of the break was the Garth Brooks concert in Nashville.  The only word I can use to describe it was amazing. The songs. The lights. The crowd. Everything was so much fun! Almost more than I could handle, which I expected. 

My good man and I kinda had an ongoing bet about the kind of concert it would be: he thought it would be the “old” Garth. You know, the Garth that ran around and busted guitars. I hoped it would be but secretly expected more of a “sit here and play” kinda Garth. He played for a solid two hours (even before two encores) and stood up and entertained the whole time.  And it was amazing. 

I know its cheesy but I was almost brought to tears a few times. Go ahead…judge if you must. It was so awesome that I don’t even care if you do. Enough talk. Let’s get to pictures.  Our seats were pretty high so the pictures aren’t the best but they are good enough for me. 

Thanks go my Dad and Jenifer we could listen to Garth the whole way to get ready.

Catching You Up

Hi, friends!

Happy New Year to you.  Sorry I haven’t posted on here in a while. My good man and I were in AR for two weeks and in and out of internet access. We had such a good time visiting family and friends!  I ate a lot of good food, drank some good coffee, had some good laughs, and played with some really cute kids.

I’m so behind on showing you pictures that I don’t even really know where to start. (P.S. 80% of you reading this don’t care one stinking thing about pictures... but those of you in the family probably do. Fam, since you’re the reason I started this whole blog in the first place, you win.)

I guess what I’ll do is start with the trip to New York. My good man and I went to see his family over Thanksgiving and his mom and I went to NYC for a day. We did some shopping in Macy’s (which I had no idea had 8 floors, by the way) and walked around to see some sights. We realized when we got home that night that we didn’t get one picture of the two of us together there. I did get some cool pictures (of the city) for you to enjoy though.
