Working Lunch

Here is a typical cafeteria conversation with two funny first graders.
Kid #1: "You listen to rap?"

Me: "NO!"

Kid #1: "I love rap."

Kid #2: "You listen to country don't you."

Me. "Yep. Actually I do listen to country."

Kid #2: "Yeah I thought you did. You kind of a country girl. Since you say ya'll and are from Arkansas."

Kid #1: "Do your boyfriend listen to rap."

Me:" I don't have a boyfriend."

Kid #1: "Uh huh! Seth."

Me: "He is my husband and no, he doesn't listen to rap either."

Kid #1" Oh. How old is he?"

Me. "25."

Kid #1: "WHAT? You older than him?"

Me: "Yes. By a few months."

Kid #1: "The boy have to be older than the girl."

Me: "That's not true. The girl can be older."

Kid #1: "Dang. I thought the boy had to be older."

Kid #2: "Me too. I thought that's how it worked."

Epic FAIL

So I called my dad. I called my mom. I called my grandparents. I bragged to people at work. I took pictures. Our kitchen looked amazing. A fun shade of RED that really jazzed up the room and looked so much better than the pink, blue, and beige wallpaper (circa 1986).

We worked all week. We got to talk and actually hang out while we painted the kitchen. We laughed and crossed our fingers that it would turn red. We went to Cracker Barrel to celebrate. Then it happened. We peeled off of the blue tape to find this...

and I had to do this...

Yes. Our beautiful red peeled right off. Didn't know whether to laugh or cry. This time around, we have the right primer and are ready to go. We primed it last night and plan on putting the hot pink red paint on tonight.
Wish us luck!

Is it Red Yet?

Good news! A day and another coat later... we have a red kitchen! Take a look at the color straight out of the can.
Friends, we call that hot pink. I knew it would dry a shade of red (like the test spot did) but I was a teensy bit worried. But don't you worry. I stayed cool as a cucumber and punched Seth right in the arm every time he made a crack at about our kind of pink kitchen.
It all began on Sunday night about 9:00 after our small group left. Why not start peeling off wallpaper?
I'm ashamed to show ya'll this... but here we go. Pink, blue, and beige wallpaper: circa 1986.
Now it is gone and the kitchen is in the process of turning red. You know, for razorbacks.
Coat one.
Coat two. I pretty much love it already. The plan is one more coat tomorrow night.
I don't really like that my kitchen looks all white-trashified with the microwave on the floor and all. It's been fun though and I think it will look 10000% better than pink, blue, and beige wallpaper: circa, 1986.

Think RED

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I'm alive and well and surviving the CRCT.
The good man and I have taken off all of the ugly wallpaper in the kitchen and painted it what I hope to turn red. So it looked a little bit pink at first. No big deal, right? Here we are about 1 hour later and it already looks a lot redder. My fingers are crossed. We all know that if I accidently painted my kitchen pink I will never hear the end of it.

I'm off to take a shower and hit the hay. Administering the CRCT and painting things hopefully red are exhausting.

Shower Power

Two days in a row! Can you believe it? I must be avoiding something... grading Math Tests maybe?
Whatever it is, I have fun things to show you (hopefully you are reading this, Sarah).

So. One of my best friends since 1989 is getting married soon. Her lingerie shower was last week in LR and I have fun pictures to show you. It was my first time to ever actually host any sort of shower and I pretty much loved it. As far as I know, everything went great and she had a great time. We had a baked potato bar which worked worked out pretty well and will be what he have when our church class comes over on Sunday.
The drink/dessert/fruit table.

The gift table before anybody really got there. I don't know why I didn't think to get one when it was FULL.

Food table. Again... why didn't I get any pictures with food actually on it? Don't know if you can see them, but I used a bunch of  Longaberger Baskets that belonged to Seth's grandma. She'd be tickled that we were able to use them, I think.

Sarah and Kara made this lingerie flamingo for my shower so of course I had to bust it out for Sarah's.

Me and the Bride.

Me and Kara.

Wow. That turned out to be picture overload. Oh well.

How about one more... just to say we did.

Ready or Not...

Scientist on the In-School Field Trip: "Boys and Girls- can anyone tell me a type of precipitation?"

My dear student: "Leaves!"

Oh sigh. (My head hangs in shame). CRCT... here we come.

Getting Back to It

Sorry it has pretty much been a whole week since the last post. My Spring Break was busy busy, but a lot of fun. The shower on Friday went great and I'll post some pictures on here later this week. It was so good to see everybody in LR but I was glad to get back to my good man.

Now I'm back to it in the ATL. School went pretty well today, I suppose. Just taking it easy before the ole' CRCT next week. Hard to believe there are only 34 days left! It's gone by fast... which is really a-okay with me.

Tonight I made pretty much the best cookies I have ever had in my life. Can't even tell they are gluten free and that's a good thing.

I didn't take this picture, but it as least lets you see what they look like.

I'm going back to unpacking and getting ready for tomorrow. Goodnight!

Out in the Country...

Tonight I am out here in the country visiting with my Dadio. I can't even begin to describe to you how much I miss it out here. I miss green trees and chickens running around. It's pretty nice to not have tall buildings and traffic noise surrounding you when you're outside. I do miss the good man and will probably be ready to head back "home" in a few days. But right now...I'm living it up at "home."

I've seen old good friends, held cute babies, laughed with my brother and sister, had coffee with one set of grand-parents (will see the other set tomorrow), gathered everything up for a lingerie shower I am co-hosting on Friday (more about that to come but I don't want to let the Beautiful Bride in on the secrets since she reads this) talked with my momma, looked at the army jeeps with my dad, looked through my old room and have really, really been enjoying myself.

Excuse me while I go back to my old life out in the country- past the city limit sign.

Here Comes Peter Cottontail...

I love a good surprise... kind of like the one I'm going to pull off today. My family thinks I can't make it into town for Easter. They all think I will leave for LR tomorrow morning. The siblings are wondering what they will do without me at lunch. Can't wait to see the look on their faces when I stroll into church to surprise them TODAY. Can't wait.

Spring Has Spung

As I sat outside watching absolutely wild and crazy energetic first graders play at recess today, it hit me that I actually love this time of year.

I love that next week is Spring Break. Let me just tell you that the whole break thing could not come at a better time.

I love how much color is all around me right now. It seems like all of a sudden the trees are just popping with color... and I love it. Can't wait to be back in the country to really see some pretty trees.

I love it when my good man opens up all of the windows during the day and I get hit with that fresh breeze right when I walk in from work.

I don't  really love that the CRCT is in two weeks but I do love that it will soon be o.v.e.r.

Somehow this school year is almost over and that is really okay with me. This time of year brings fun things (like Field Day, Spring Concerts, Field Trips and looonnnnnnggggg recesses) in the Elementary World.

But you know what? Out of  all of my choices for the "Favorite Thing About Spring Award" ... one really takes the cake.

Yeah buddy. Nothing says spring like a Reese's Peanut Butter Egg and a DDP. Don't judge me.
